Board Approves New Positions

On Tuesday, the USD 475 Board of Education approved the following positions due to enrollment numbers increasing this school year, which includes the following positions at Morris Hill Elementary: a new receptionist position, a new adaptive communication and social skills - ACSS teacher position, a new fourth grade teacher position and a new kindergarten teacher position. Other positions approved included a fifth grade teacher position at Seitz Elementary and a new adaptive communication and social skills - ACSS teacher position at Junction City High School.

Board Discusses Kindergarten Readiness and Every Child Can Read Act

The USD 475 Board of Education and Jennifer Black, USD 475 Director of Elementary Education, reviewed kindergarten readiness in USD 475 and the Every Child Can Read Act. During the discussion, Black went over the district’s core competencies, including phonics vocabulary, development, fluency and reading comprehension.

• On Tuesday, the Board of Education voted to continue its discussion about Board Member Compensation during the October Board Meeting. The board also reviewed the GovLink, LLC contract and its current wording, specifically how payments are calculated. They ultimately tabled the discussion after a lengthy debate and will bring it back for discussion in October as well.

• The USD 475 Board of Education and Dr. Reginald Eggleston, USD 475 Superintendent of Schools, discussed in length on Tuesday night about the possibility of closing Milford Elementary and Grandview Elementary in 2026, as well as the existing Hauge Building and Heim/Early Childhood Center
