John T. Bonacorda, 77 passed away May 6, 2024. He was born January 26, 1947 in Bronx, New York, the son of John and Jeanette (Boenisch) Bonacorda. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1965, serving 20 years and retired in 1985 as Chief Warrant Officer 2. He was awarded the Purple Heart during his time in the military.
After his services in the army, he went to the Kansas State University receiving his Bachelor’s degree. He was proud to be a K-State alumni. On January 20, 1968 he was united in marriage to Deborah Ann Dennis. They later divorced in 1996. John was proud of his military career and continued helping other Veteran’s throughout. He was a member of the Junction City VFW Post 8773, American Legion Post 45, Junction City Elks Club, and was part of the Military Officers Association of America, the Military Order of Cooties Puptent 5, Scratch Me in Junction City, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Manhattan. John is survived by his daughter, Teresa Cabanting, one son, John Bonacorda. Grandchildren: Leilani Malia Cabanting and Savannah LeeAnn Cabanting. Two brothers: Arthur Kersting and Anthony Bonacorda. Nieces: Donna Bonacorda, Jeanette Bonacorda, Christine Nazarenus, Mary Kersting, Kelly Stanley, Suzanne Moyers, Barbara Jean Kersting and Erin Flynn and one nephew, John Flynn. He was preceded in death by his parents and Step-Mother, Jean Bonacorda, and two sisters, June Trimboli and Rita Kersting-Mesk.
Military Services for John will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024 at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery by Manhattan. Memorial contributions may be made to the John T. Bonacorda Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the Danner Funereal Home, 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene KS 67410.
