Due to the high volume of calls, the Junction City Police Department and the Geary County Sheriff's Office have activated emergency reporting and response protocols for motor vehicle accidents.
Officers will only respond to accidents involving: Injuries, suspected alcohol or drug involvement, and totaled or severely damaged vehicles. Minor accidents and slide-offs will not receive a response.
If you are involved in a minor accident, exchange personal and insurance information with the other driver and report the accident to your insurance company as soon as possible. Then file a report with the appropriate law enforcement agency at a later time when conditions improve. If property damage is greater than $1,000, file within 48 hours.
Law enforcement highly encourages everyone to avoid travel.
