Odell said the firearm involved was a handgun and the 9-year old suffered a wound to the body. The boy was transported by EMS to Geary Community Hospital and then life flighted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment.
Odell indicated that the location where the shooting occurred was outside of the house where the boys lived at 2007 Northwind Drive.
The name of the 9-year old has not yet been released by authorities.

Junction City police responded to the 2000 block of Northwind Drive on the north side of Junction City early Tuesday evening to what Police Captain Corey Odell termed a "likely accidental shooting," resulting from children playing with firearms.
Odell noted that authorities received a call just after 7 p.m. about a 9-year old boy that had suffered a possible gunshot wound. The boy suffered a serious injury, was stabilized and flown to a hospital. Another boy, a sibling, was not injured in the incident.
Authorities are still conducting an investigation at the scene.
