Kathy Tremont brought a long and successful career as Geary County Treasurer to a close on Friday. It was her final day in the office before she retires.
Tremont said it was bittersweet. "I'll always miss working with the people and that means the people here in the office and also, all the people that come in because that's what it's all about. " Tremont added the most rewarding part of the job is meeting and dealing with the people.
Tremont began working in the Treasurer's office in May of 1977 and first ran for county treasurer in 1992. She was elected and started serving as treasurer in early 1993.

The outgoing treasurer called the job challenging but rewarding. "I could honestly say every day I walk in whether or not I have plans or not for the day it's just one of those jobs you never know what's going to happen the next day, and I really like that."
In her retirement Tremont plans to travel some with her sister, attend K-State football games, spend time with her grandchildren and work in her backyard.

A large contingent of supporters gathered at the Geary County Office Building Friday afternoon to honor Tremont during a retirement party. Her retirement is official on Feb. 1. She will be succeeded in the Treasurer's post by Sherri Childs.
