The first game of the 2023 high school football season for Junction City ends in a 20-14 overtime loss.
The Blue Jays struggled for most of the game stopping Hays standout running back Malik Bah. He accounted for all three touchdowns for the Indians, including the game-winning four-yard touchdown run in overtime.
The Blue Jays had a chance to tie and win the game in overtime, but were stopped one-yard short of the goal line on a fourth and goal option play in overtime.
Some highlights of the night for the Blue Jays were on a couple of long touchdown passes from quarterback Brock Bazan to Michael Boganowski. The first touchdown was in the third quarter and was a 21-yard connection that tied the game at 7-7. The highlight of the game for Junction City was the 86-yard connection between Bazan and Boganowski. It was 2nd down and 28, from their own 14-yard line, and Bazan threw it over the middle of the field to Boganowski and he took it in for six.
After the game, head coach Randall Zimmerman delivered remarks on the 107.9 FM/1420 KJCK postgame show. Zimmerman said, "Incredibly tough loss tonight. I've got to be better, and I will be better. I love this group of kids and we will continue to work. "
