County wants to ensure ARPA money is available to help the hospital

Geary County Commissioners want to provide up to $3.5 million to support the financially challenged Geary Community Hospital. So far $1 million has been given for that purpose. Now the county needs to make sure American Recovery Program Act funds that are needed can be utilized.

Alex Tyson, Commission Chair, addressed the issue. "With some rumblings of how ARPA funds may be handled at the state level we're trying to make sure that we have the hospital in mind as we're trying to salvage those funds." Tyson added hopefully that money arrives but the Commission is trying to make sure that they have all the numbers that the hospital will need moving forward, "where we can help support in that area."

The matter was tabled by the governing body on Monday until a full commission could be present for planning the future action on the matter.  Tyson noted that the verbage on ARPA funds is ever changing, but they do expect to receive a second installment of those funds in June.
