History Alive Update

Pastor Tim McCall from Immanuel Lutheran Church has been added to the historic line-up for History Alive,  the Geary County Historical Society's living history event on April 18th.

According to a release from the Historical Society Pastor McCall will offer a brief sermon starting at 10:30am at the historic Wetzel Cabin, which served as the birthplace for the Lutheran Church in the state of Kansas in the mid 1800s. This sermon will kick-off the living history event.History Alive! is in its fourth year at Spring Valley Historic Site, located at 721 N. Spring Valley Rd, Junction City.

Along with the sermon by Pastor McCall, the event will be bursting with historic demonstrations from living historians and reenactors from across the country. Visitors will have an opportunity to experience history firsthand, try historic skills like spinning wool, visit one-room log cabins, learn about Ojibwa ceremonial dancing and step inside authentic tipis.

Concessions including fresh kettle corn will be available for purchase.History Alive! will be open to the public on Saturday, April 18th from 10am-4pm. Parking is located at the Junction City Middle School with wagon rides offered to and from the site between 10am-1pm. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person that can be taken at the entrance to the event. All proceeds benefit the Geary County Historical Society and the upkeep of the Spring Valley Historic Site.
