Karen Jeanne Dunlap, 78, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Abilene.
She was born July 26, 1945, in Abilene, KS, the daughter of George and Vesta (Cavender) Buhler. Growing up in Abilene, Karen attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School. On Aug. 2, 1963, she married John W. Dunlap Jr. in Abilene. All of their married life was spent in Abilene, before John passed in 2017. Karen worked at the Duckwall/Alco Offices and at Sears. John and Karen owned and operated John’s Service over 40 years.
Karen is preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Don Buhler; sister, Beth VanOvershelde; and daughter-in-law, Shelly Lahr-Dunlap.Survivors: two sons, Brad (Jan) Dunlap and Bryan (Kassi) Dunlap, both of Abilene; four grandchildren, Alyssa (Seth) Schooley, Connor, Cale (Katie) Dunlap and Breckyn (Emmett) Greene; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20th at Emmanuel Church with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Abilene Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hospice of Dickinson County or the Elsie Brooks Cancer Fund. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent, in care of Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene 67410.
