City funding to assist Geary Community Hospital received commission attention Tuesday night. The possibility of using up to $3 million in American Recovery Program Act funding exists for that purpose as the hospital works through this year and toward a potential agreement with Stormont Vail Regional Health on Jan. 1.
City Manager Allen Dinkel confirmed no funding was committed Tuesday night but there was a resolution of support and commitment of staff to help the hospital during the transition. "The commission wants everyone to look at their planning."
Hospital Board of Trustees Vice Chair, Cecil Aska, said as they move forward hopefully GCH will not have to ask for that funding. "That's kind of trying to put some stuff in place that we may need to help us get to Jan. 1, maybe up to $3 million from the City."
