Donnavie Wodke passed away at age 89, on November 1, 2020, after suffering a stroke in Pensacola, Florida. She resided in a nursing home near her daughter, Patty, who took loving care of her to the end.
She was born to Alfred and Virginia Allen and raised in Junction City, KS where she grew up working in her parent’s grocery store, Allen’s Market.
Before moving to Florida, Donnavie was a long time resident of Council Grove and was married to Mel Wodke for thirty years. She was a member of Wilsey Christian Church.
She was a beautiful and accomplished singer who began singing at a very young age. She attended Music Conservatory and performed at various venues throughout her life. Donnavie performed with Mel at Washunga Days in Council Grove in re-enactment plays and as “Tulip” the Clown in parades and other events around town. She was also a talented cook, avid baker and was known for her apple pies. She had a green thumb and loved to garden.
Donnavie was blessed with three daughters from her first marriage: Scherene Gage, Patricia Chavis and Katherine Marks, who were the loves of her life and she adored her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite song was Somewhere Over the Rainbow and her favorite saying was “I Love You To The Moon And Back”. Donnavie’s heart was huge and had room for everyone. She taught her family how to love!
Donnavie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mel Wodke; siblings: Rosemary Brehm (Louis), Kenneth Allen (Gayle), and Jim Allen; nephews: Robin Brehm and Kevin Allen; and son-in-law Craig Marks.
She is survived by her three daughters: Scherene, Patty and Katherine; sons-in-law: Mark Gage and Keith Chavis; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephew and beloved friends. She was the light of their lives and will be greatly missed. Special thanks to Shannon, Scott, Michell and Dylan Allen for watching over Donnavie and Mel for many years. She loved them dearly.
A Memorial Service for Donnavie will be held in Council Grove at a later date.
