Geary County Register of Deeds announces her retirement plans

Geary County Register of Deeds, Diane Briestensky-Leonard has announced her plans to retire toward the end of 2024.

Briestensky-Leonard started with the Register of Deeds office in 1994 as the Deputy Register of Deeds under Goldie Johnson. Johnson planned on retiring and recruited Briestensky-Leonard in 1994 from Junction City Abstract and Title to be the Deputy Register of Deeds. Diane was elected in November 1996 and took office in January 1997.

Briestensky-Leonard is completing her 7th term as Geary County Register of Deeds. Currently, she is mentoring Jacqie Reisinger, her Deputy to become the next Register of Deeds. Reisenger plans on being on the ballot in 2024.

During Diane’s time as the Register of Deeds she served on boards for the North Central District Register of Deeds Association and the Kansas Register of Deeds Association, holding officer positions on both, including President.

Briestensky-Leonard also served on many committees for the association that included the Legislative, and the Education Committee. Diane said she is grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve as the Register of Deeds. She thanked all who have supported her in her career. Upon retirement she plans to take time for herself and discover new opportunities.
