Alan M. Berggren, 81, passed away in Lindsborg March 12, 2021, surrounded by family.

He was born April 5, 1939 in Clay Center to Harlan and Hanna (Pearson) Berggren. He graduated from Clay Center High School in 1956. He later graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Nuclear Engineering. He worked at GT Manufacturing and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, travelling and spending time with his family. He checked the Dispatch obituaries daily to make sure he wasn’t in them. His sense of humor was well known and evident to the last.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Steve Berggren.

Survivors include one son, Tim Berggren (Robin) of Lindsborg and two daughters Lana Bergman (Paul) of Arlington Heights, IL and Jan Scharping (Brian) of Wichita. Brother David Berggren (Shirley) of Clay Center, grandchildren Shane (Holly) Berggren, Jacob Berggren, April (Matt) Faulkner, Harry (Carrie) Bergman, Heather (Cody) Baldwin, Megan (Forrest) Jenkins, Eric Scharping and Nicholas Scharping. Great grandchildren Josie, Lyric and August Berggren, Ben and Nolan Faulkner and Charlie Bergman plus many other family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 18 from 3-8 p.m. at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center.  Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 p.mm. Friday, March 19 at 2:00 at Swedesburg First Lutheran Church, Morganville.

Memorials may be made to the Alan Berggren memorial fund c/o the funeral home and will be designated at a later date.

Golfers are encouraged to play a round in his memory on Saturday, March 20 or at their convenience.

His family would like to sincerely thank Kindred Hospice for their care and service and also show tremendous appreciation to Holly Berggren for her love, compassion, professionalism and dedication to Grandpa in his final weeks.
