There have been preliminary comments this week from some members of the Junction City and Geary County Commissions about the MAC and EDC. Both operations are overseen by the Chamber with both the City and County providing some funding.
The recent termination of the Military Affairs Director has created a backlash.
Junction City Commissioner Richard Pinaire suggested Tuesday night that the City talk with the County about MAC and the EDC. He noted that he mentioned to one county commissioner that maybe the County have responsibility for MAC and the City take over the EDC. Pinaire had hoped to discuss the issue during a joint meeting that was scheduled this past Monday but that was canceled due to storms.
City Commissioner Kelly Niemczyk added that she looks forward to the EDC conversation.
Geary County Commissioner Trish Giordano recently indicated that she wanted the City and County to talk. The posting of the vacant MAC Director position was put on hold until the City and County have those discussions.
In the interim there is a temporary military liason position with the City but Giordano does not support paying for both.
