Geary County grows during the pandemic

Visitors to Geary County spent $88 million in 2020 during the pandemic, increasing by 11% or nearly $9 million that year. According to information provided by the Convention & Visitor's Bureau total employment supported by visitor spending registered 1,126 county jobs.

Visitors generated $9.5 million in state and local taxes in 2020. Geary County's outdoor attractions and proximity to population centers supported the spending growth in 2020.

The visitor spending of $88 million ranked Geary County 11th among all counties in Kansas, after being ranked 13th in 2019. The county had the second highest growth rate among all counties in Kansas in 2020.
