SEWARD COUNTY —Authorities in Seward County are investigating the cause of a Monday night fire after the city of Liberal, the county seat, banned the discharge of fireworks in the city limits.
Late Monday, the Seward County Fire Department responded to the scene of a vegetation fire northwest of Liberal, according to Fire Chief Andrew Barkley.
Crews contained the 3-acre fire and units worked hotspots overnight. The fire appears to be caused by fireworks, according to Barkley.
In the city of Liberal's ban of fireworks, they cited the dry, windy conditions through month of June.
