Family YMCA gets a boost from civic clubs

Thanks to the Junction City Noon Kiwanis, JC Optimists and Junction City Rotary Club; the YMCA has a new gym curtain divider.  The need for a divider became apparent after the YMCA started their free supper meal program for children under the age of 18.  “Our lunch area just became overcrowded” YMCA Director Amber Stanley said.  “We can close the curtain and use half the gym for our meal program and still have the other side available for kids to use.”

“The curtain also helps additional youth programs.  We can have two separate youth basketball practices going on or have an aerobics class and open gym happening at the same time.  The curtain really has been helpful in a lot of different programs.”

This spring / early summer the YMCA will be getting a much needed new roof.  The YMCA is fundraising for a new basketball floor so that it can be installed after the roof replacement.

The kid summer activity schedule for the YMCA is full.  They are offering swim lessons, EFMP swim lessons, tiny tot sports, taekwondo, 4th-12th grade endurance and weights classes, open gym times and if you want to become certified as a lifeguard go to the YMCA.  They also run an all-day summer program for kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Not forgetting about adults; the YMCA offers multiple classes ranging from water fitness, yoga, Pilates, deep water fitness and land fitness classes.  They also have a weight room, cardio rooms and an indoor pool.
