Live Well Geary County release

The Junction City Commission has adopted a resolution changing the name of the Live Well Geary County Food Policy Council to the Live Well Geary County Food and Farm Council. The update reflects the current mission to support the local food system.

The Food and Farm Council requested the name change to reflect its focus on food access, including support for local farmers, sustainable food systems, community education, and economic development. Established in 2016, the Food and Farm Council has supported local Initiatives such as the Healthy Food Prescription Program, local farmers' market, community gardening, and the 10-Year Food System Plan.

The mission of the Food and Farm Council is to build a stronger, more equitable local food system that ensures all Geary County residents have access to healthy, affordable food. The Food and Farm Council works to identify barriers within the local food system and develop sustainable, community-driven solutions. Its goals include increasing food access, addressing hunger and food insecurity, supporting local agriculture, and influencing policies that shape food production and distribution.

As part of the reorganization, the Commission also appointed the following members to the Council. Vickie Bobbitt - I.C.A.R.E., Kalie Kipp – WIC Konza Prairie Community Health Clinic, Mike Wilson – Flint Hills Coordinated Transportation District #4, Barbara Wright, Nichole Mader – United Way, Julia Loper – Geary County Food Pantry, Debbie Johns – Geary County Food Pantry, Somia Jamma – KSU Extension SNAP Nutrition Education, Caroline Davis – Michelin, Felicia Green – Department of Children & Family Services.
