Mark Thomas Stutheit, age 68, of Manhattan passed away December 20, 2024 at his home.
He was born on July 21, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents were John Thomas Stutheit and Geraldine (Tague) Stutheit. He had two sisters, Kelli (Stutheit) Payne and Kari Stutheit. The family moved to Manhattan in 1963. Mark grew up and went to school in Manhattan where he had a large group of friends and family. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1974. He met his wife, Julie (Sump) Stutheit in that same year. Mark and Julie were married on September 2, 1977. They were married for 47 years.
Mark and Julie had two daughters, Jaina (Stutheit) Lambert and Megan (Stutheit) Springer. The Stutheit family lived in Manhattan. Jaina and Megan both graduated from Manhattan High School and Kansas State University. The family are big K-State fans and enjoyed going to K-State games and watching K-State and Kansas City Chiefs football games together on TV.
Mark loved the outdoors, bird watching, fishing and camping. The Stutheits spent a lot of time at Tuttle Creek Lake and had many family campouts over the years. Mark also loved music, so the family took many fun trips together with various friends to go to concerts and music festivals.
Mark and Julie were also proud grandparents. They had two grandchildren, Sadie (19) and Ryder (15). Mark loved spending time with his grandkids, who spent a lot of time at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. After he retired, Mark took care of Sadie and Ryder during the day in the summer while their parents were at work. They have so many wonderful memories with their Grandpa Mark, especially from those summers when they did so much fun stuff together.
Mark worked for Kansas Gas Service for 38 years. He retired in 2016. He was enjoying his retirement, just having the time to spend with friends and family. He and Julie liked to travel, so after he retired the two of them went on several big trips together.
Mark will be dearly missed by his family and many, many friends. He is survived by his wife, Julie Stutheit; children, Jaina Lambert (husband Ray), Megan Springer (husband Davin); grandchildren, Sadie Lambert, Ryder Lambert; sisters, Kelli Payne and Kari Stutheit, along with many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life to honor Mark will be held at The Blue Hills Room in Manhattan on Sunday, January 12 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
