Work on the new Junction City High School project continues to move forward, with USD 475 Chief Operations Officer David Wild saying they continue to target an August opening. "We're probably going to be discussing a soft opening. "
This week the Board of Education approved the purchase of security cameras for the school. "And then $1.2 million in furnishings which will furnish the commons areas, the media center, the library, the lunchroom area as well as the science classrooms and laboratories."
Classroom furniture from the current high school will be moved to the new school, and then over time the district will purchase new furnishings as that becomes affordable."
The estimated cost of the new JCHS is now over $129 million. That amount covers all soft costs, all infrastructure and all facility structure additions.
A ribbon cutting was initially planned Aug. 6th, but Wild noted with the development of a new school calendar the district would be in school that first week in August. "We'll probably do a soft opening which would include some open house, maybe on Saturday the 7th, be my initial thoughts and then have something a little more official later in the semester."
