Junction City police issue scam alert

The Junction City Police Department has been made aware of a scam currently targeting members of the community. Police said an individual is spoofing the Junction City Police Department’s phone number and claiming to be Chief of Police Nichols. The caller states that Homeland Security has notified them of a warrant for the recipient’s arrest and demands immediate payment to avoid arrest. They may also claim officers are being sent if payment is not made.

This is a scam! Important reminders include the following:

- JCPD will never call to demand payment or threaten arrest

- They will never request money, gift cards, or financial information over the phone

-- Phone numbers can be spoofed to appear legitimate.If you receive a call like this, do not engage with the caller, do not provide personal or financial information, hang up, and contact the Junction City Police Department using a verified phone number.
