Andras Paul Yaghjian, known as "Andy," from Wamego, Kansas, passed away with his wife by his side, at his home on December 31, 2025.

Andy was born on January 3, 1951, in Providence, Rhode Island, to parents Edward and Gladys (Andrews) Yaghjian. In 1972, he married Johanna Bernardette Veader in North Seekonk, Massachusetts. She survives at their home.

Andy was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Army as a food service specialist, retiring as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) in 1992, after a distinguished career. His military service included deployments to the Middle East during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. His time in the Army provided him and his family the opportunity to experience life overseas, to include 12 years in Germany.

Following his military career, Andy transitioned to civilian life where he worked as a maintenance worker and security guard at St. Mary's Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. He also continued his service in maintenance at Kansas State University, achieving a second retirement from this role.

Andy was an avid automobile enthusiast, having raced stock cars in both Germany and Junction City, Kansas. He had a passion for building model race cars and took pride in his classic vehicles, including a 1929 Ford Model A and a custom 1953 Chevy. He was a lifetime member of the Good Sam Club, Society of the First Infantry Division, and Disabled American Veterans organization.

Andy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Johanna (Veader) Yaghjian; sons, Andras "Andy" Yaghjian II and Anthony "Tony" Yaghjian (Sarah); grandchildren, Leonidas, Baylee-Jo, and Taylor; great-grandchild, Gianni; brother, Duane Yaghjian; and his beloved Shih Tzu dog, Schatz.

Andy’s family will be holding a private memorial service.

Andy’s family suggest memorial contributions to the “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital” or “American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).” Please make checks payable to the charity of your choice and those may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 48, Wamego, KS, 66547.

Andy Yaghjian's contributions to both his family and his country will be remembered fondly, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
