Marla Joyce Hewitt, 78, of Council Grove, Kansas passed away with family by her side, at Morris County Hospital, July 29, 2020.
She was born August 13, 1941, the daughter of Leslie and Margaret Thimes Bass, in Emporia, Kansas. She attended Americus High School. Marla married the love of her life, Jimmy Hewitt on December 21, 1958. They had three children: John, Mary and James.
Marla was a lifelong member of Council Grove Christian Church. Marla worked at various jobs throughout her lifetime. She worked as a cook and retired from USD 417 after 10 years of service. Marla loved taking care of her husband Jimmy…he was her world! She loved cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jimmy; son John Hewitt; brother Bob Bass; and sister Elaine Casper. Marla is survived by her daughter Mary Hewitt and fiancé’ Lee Garrett and James (Bill) Hewitt and fiancé’ Nicole Hobbs; sister Jeanette Borgs; daughter-in-law Carol Hewitt; brothers: Tom and Dan Bass; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Marla will be sadly missed by all.
At her request, Marla was cremated. A Celebration of Marla’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on August 13, 2020, at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Marla Hewitt Memorial Fund and sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
