Lorna Rae Pierce led the Junction City Lady Jay varsity contingent in the Bob Schmoekel Cross Country Invitational Saturday at Milford State Park. She finished 21st with a time of 22:02.6 as the Lady Jays finished fifth in the meet with a score of 128. Kapaun Mt. Carmel captured first with the low team score of 36 points. Ten teams had runners competing.
JCHS coach Ryan Norton said Pierce had a good race. "She ran the same time as she did on the Buhler race, so that's a good job to take her time from Buhler and match it on our course. She definitely grew today."
Also for the Lady Jays, Katelyn Atkins finished 32nd in 23:42, Amyah O'Neal 33rd in 24.02.4 and Ashlynn Shea 35th in 24:12.3.
The Blue Jay varsity boys only had two runners entered in the Invitational. Hayden Diestelkamp finished 27th in 19:28.8 while Carlos Lozano was 35th in 20:03.3. Manhattan won the varsity boys team title with a score of 27 points. Junction City did not have a full team score.
