Members of the community possessing a Department of Defense ID card had an opportunity to visit Fort Riley for Apple Day on Saturday. Activities ranged from performances by the Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard to static equipment demonstrations. Both the Cavalry Parade Field and Artillery Parade Field were used to host events.
Christ Stewart, Pie King, said volunteers made 835 apple pies. Some were sold on Saturday. "In past years we've done nearly 2,000. We did just a little bit less because of the COVID mitigations."
Funds raised by the sale of pies go to support the Historical and Archaeological Society of Fort Riley, said Stewart. "And they're used to improve the footprint of the Fort Riley Museum and the Custer House."
