Freedom Fest plans for future celebrations

Posted Sep 12, 2024 9:25 PM

Planning is under way for the annual Freedom Fest Fourth of July celebration in Junction City in both 2025 and 2026.

Spokesman Nate Butler said they're planning for a big event in 2026 with the hope of keeping Fort Riley families here and also engaging the rest of Kansas.  In 2026, they will be commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

According to a release from the CVB to make this anniversary a truly unforgettable experience, there is a search for volunteers to help form and serve on planning committees.

There will be committees formed to oversee various aspects of the celebration, and could include:

  1. Community Events: Planning and organizing local gatherings, festivals, and parades.
  2. Educational Programs: Developing educational initiatives to teach young people about American history.
  3. Arts and Culture: Curating exhibitions, performances, and cultural events.
  4. Volunteer Coordination: Recruiting and managing volunteers to ensure the success of the celebratio
