Fishing, games and prizes were all part of the 5th annual Brandon Stroda Fishing Derby Saturday at Homer's Pond in Junction City. Terrah Stroda noted the event was held in honor of her late husband, "whose sole purpose with the fatherhood initiative was to bring the community, children, fathers and moms together."
Terrah observed the community together, "fishing, which was one of his loves and a lot of smiles both with parents and with kids."
Alex Tyson with Geared Up Dads and Delivering Change worked to coordinate the event at Homer's Pond. He noted there were some fish caught. "We had a young man, he had a giant net, he drug his fish over here."
Tyson said the Derby is done for two reasons. "We do it to really celebrate the man that Brandon was. He was always about family and being outdoors and doing things. And then also to really bring the community out and bring them around each other, and making sure that we're giving back and providing a good family fun experience."
