Kenneth D. (Jack/Doc) Blackwood

Kenneth D. (Jack/Doc) Blackwood passed away at the age of 93 on June 19, 2021 in Clay Center, Kansas.

Kenneth was born on October 2, 1927 to Jenny (Doig) and George Blackwood in Clay County, Kansas.

He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1944.

Kenneth served in the United States Navy for 2 years.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a long time member of the BPOE. Jack became a faithful member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church in 2004.

Jack attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in 1950. He practiced in Manhattan, Kansas from 1950 to 1985. Upon retirement, he and Marvel settled in Clay Center, Kansas to be closer to relatives and the family farm.

Jack married Marvel A. Morisette on June 24, 1950 in Annawan, Illinois. Kenneth and Marvel were married for 47 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Garner of St. George, Kansas, 2 brothers, George Blackwood (friend, Pat Nazarenus), Muscatine, Iowa, and Rex Blackwood (Mary Kaye), Clay Center, and a sister, Wanda Hafner, Clay Center, Kansas. Also surviving Kenneth are sisters-in-laws Madeleine Blackwood, Clyde, Darlene Plouffe, Indian Wells, California, Joan Croegaert (Paul), Lakewood, Colorado, and good friend, Meta Wendelken of Clay Center. “Uncle Jack” also leaves behind 29 nieces and nephews.

Preceding Kenneth in death were his wife, Marvel, son Greg, 3 brothers, Don, Dean and Lawrence, who died in infancy, and his parents and grandparents.

Kenneth had many hobbies including farming, wood carving, yard work, golfing, hunting, fishing and gardening.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, June 23 at 2:00 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church, with respect calls preceding the ceremony from 12:00 - 1:30 at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Miltonvale Cemetery.
