Junction City Lady Jays competed in an invitational at Salina South on Thursday. Coach Beth Schlesener said the team was well prepared but finished seventh out of eight squads. There were quite a few personal records for the Lady Jay swimmers. "A lot of kids were swimming strokes that they had swam before, so it went pretty well I think."
Schlesener noted that for Junction City Amaiya Rohan and Akasha Schlict both swam did well in events in which had never swam before, the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Rohan turned in a time of 3:22.48 in thee 200 individual medley while Schlicht recorded a time of 3:52.94. In the 100 butterfly the time for Schlicht was 1:55.67 and for Rohan 1:37.72.
Schlesener said LuCasey Hammock dropped 18 seconds in the breaststroke event with a time of 2:00.46 and Andrea Hipolito dropped 11 seconds in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:34.20.
There will be two meets for Junction City this week at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka. On Tuesday the Lady Jays will swim against Labette County, Manhattan, Lawrence Free State and Topeka High. On Thursday opponents will include Olathe South, Salina Central, Salina South, Seaman, Topeka High, Topeka West and Washburn Rural.
