Geary County officials are looking at the possibility of utilizing a low interest loan through USDA to build two new rural fire stations and add on or replace a third one.
Two stations built in 1970 currently house one truck piece but could become two-bay stations with a brush truck and pumper. They would be located 0n Clarks Creek Road and Humboldt Creek Road.
There is also a possibility of adding on or replacing a rural fire station near I-70 and K-18 Highway. Emergency Management Director Garry Berges noted that KDOT is looking redoing that interchange. The County must decide if it will encroach on that fire station.
The new stations would lower insurance rates for residents.
