Joe Markley served as a teacher at Chapman High School for 30 years and then 10 years as a Co-Director of the C.L. Hoover Opera House along with his wife Sheila Markley. Now he wants to serve on the Junction City Commission. "Good for me to contribute back to the community."
Markley said that he doesn't come with a laundry list of issues. "I want to listen to my constituents. I want to listen to the people of the city and make informed decisions. Important to that is transparency."
Markley stressed that there are a lot of great things about the community.
He feels it's important to stay fiscally responsible and remembered when they began at the Opera House it was in dire straights. A budget was established and followed, and from then on they were in the black.
Other candidates for city commission include Kelly Niemczyk, Robert Laster, Jim Germann, Terry Butler and Sam Yoskowitz. The election is Nov. 4.
