NWS: Dry and windy conditions lead to very high fire danger

Dry and windy conditions have led to a very high fire danger in the area on Monday.

The National Weather Service in Topeka said winds will be sustained at 20 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, throughout the day. The high temperature is expected to be in the low- to mid-60s.

Relief could be on the way, however, as there is a 50 percent chance of rain in the early morning hours Tuesday. and throughout the morning. The high Tuesday is expected to reach the low-60s, jumping up to the low-70s on Wednesday.

More precipitation is possible Wednesday night and Thursday night, the NWS said, although the chances are just 20 percent to 30 percent.
