Posted Feb 11, 2022 1:15 AM

Junction City and Topeka West meet for the second time this season in boys and girls basketball when they play tonight at the Blue Jay Event Center.

In boys action the Chargers defeated the Blue Jays 67-66 in overtime in the first meeting between the two teams, with Elijah Brooks scoring 36 points for Topeka West. Junction City coach Nick Perez noted that the Chargers are ranked second in Class 5A and Brooks is probably one of the best players in the state.  There are other talented players on the roster as well. "We're going to have to handle their 2-3 zone, we're going to have to handle some of their 2-2-1 press and for us I think we're capable of doing that."

In the girls matchup Junction City will be going for their second win the season against Topeka West. The Lady Jays won the first meeting 32-30.

Both games can be heard on 107.9 FM and 1420 KJCK AM with the varsity girls contest about 6 p.m. and the varsity boys game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

As part of the Winter Spirit Week activities the king and queen will be crowned in between the girls and boys varsity basketball games. There will also be a school dance in the Auxiliary Gym after the boys contest from 9 - 11 p.m.

For those who attend the basketball game admission to the dance will be free and for those going just to the dance only the admission will be $3 at the door.
