Opera House Gala activities begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the C.L. Hoover Opera house. This event is a fundraiser for the new Education Building which is being renovated at 131 West 7th Street, adjacent to the Opera House.
The Education Building is intended to accommodate primarily youth education. Opera House Co-Director Sheila Markley said, "It's going to offer us so many advantages. We are just busting at the seams with people rehearsing here and there, and where do they go. Now people are going to have a place and it's going to be wonderful."
Tickets are $50 and they can be obtained at the Opera House or from Sheila Markley or Opera House board members. The schedule includes registration at 5:30 followed by a social hour. Then at 6:30 the focus shifts to the lobby and then the Opera House theater for the JC Can Dance event. Three groups will be competing including The Dance Moms, The Vital Signs and The Teachers Pets.
Everyone buying a ticket gets a ballot, and if you want to up the ante it's another one dollar per vote. Silent auction items will be located in the Opera House lobby.
