MANHATTAN — Kansas State University's Carl R. Ice College of Engineering is honoring Evergy as its 2025 Company of the Year in recognition of Evergy's outstanding commitment to engineering education, professional excellence and community engagement.Evergy provides electricity to more than 1 million customers across Kansas and Missouri, and its impact extends beyond electricity services.
With more than a century of service in Kansas, Evergy employees are actively involved in community organizations and supporting educational institutions like K-State."We are thrilled to recognize Evergy as our 2025 Company of the Year," said Brad Kramer, Ike and Letty Evans engineering chair and interim dean of the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering. "Evergy is a critical partner for us with a coverage footprint that spans across large sections of K-State country in Kansas and Missouri. Evergy needs outstanding engineers to keep the lights on, and they look for those engineers right here at K-State."Through internships and hands-on collaboration, Evergy's partnership with the university reflects the company's broad commitment to developing the next generation of energy leaders.
Students may enter meaningful careers with Evergy post-graduation and play a key role in the company's innovation and adaptability."Evergy is honored to receive this award from Kansas State University," said John Bridson, Evergy's senior vice president, generation and operations support, and K-State alumnus. "The students continue to impress us by using engineering skills developed at K-State to address actual in-the-field issues."In addition to internships, Evergy has engaged with the college through the sponsorship of senior design projects, which give students the chance to solve real-world problems while still at K-State."Just last year, the senior design students worked with engineers at one of our generation plants to build a model cooling tower section and develop an unmanned system to remotely clean debris from that test tower," Bridson said. "These kinds of projects help businesses like Evergy find solutions to real-world challenges. We look forward to continuing to support and work with the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering."
Evergy will be honored at the college's career fair reception at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Engineering Hall atrium.
