Geary County Commissioners have approved a motion to seek requests for proposals ( RFP ) for a study to see if there is a need for a new jail or to renovate the existing facility.
The county commission recently received a report that approximately $29 million in repairs were needed for the current jail, but there is no cost estimate for a new structure.
During discussion Monday with members of the Public Building Commission and County staff, suggestions also included a need to gather input from other counties, determine land and bed needs and form a steering committee for the project. All options need to be reviewed.
