Junction City Commissioners have approved a resolution authorizing staff to seek a low-cost state revolving loan to help with both the southwest and east wastewater plant Phase II improvements.
The goal is to create efficiencies, operational capacity and meet federal requirements for discharge of treated wastewater. Improvements would range from sludge thickening and storage to new or upgraded administration buildings at the plants.
The estimated cost would be approximately $59 million with a two year, nine-month construction time frame.
The improvements to the wastewater plants are being done to meet federal mandated requirements. The plan is to repay the loan through future sewer rates.
