Chapman prepares for 112th annual Labor Day celebration

Chapman holds a Labor Day celebration on both Sunday and Monday.

Sunday activities begin with the Lions Club Golf Tournament at the Indian Hill Golf Course.  There will be shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for this four-person scramble, cash payouts to top teams in each flight and proxy cash prizes. There will be a ticket raffle for two rounds at Colbert Hills Golf Course.

There will be a street dance downtown from 6-9 p.m., the beer garden will be open 5-10 p.m. and star gazing is scheduled at the community garden from 8-10 p.m. You can view the stars and planets using the Chapman Library's new telescope. 

On Monday the traditional parade will begin at 2 p.m. Floats line up at the Beemer Ball Complex at 1:15 and judging is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. The parade theme will be, "Celebrating Hometown Volunteers" and the grand marshals will be Ray and Lynn Kruse.

Other Monday activities include breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the American Legion, Touch a Truck in the District Gym parking lot from 8 a.m. until noon, arts and craft and food vendors downtown, an antique tractor show rom 9 a.m. to noon south of the high school. Bouncy House at the Sheeran Tennis Courts, a quilt show, axe throwing and a pedal pull are on the schedule along with the Luck of the Irish Toy Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The celebration is sponsored by the Chapman Lions Club, City of Chapman, and the Chapman Economic Development Committee.
