Nina Marie Schoenfeld

Nina Marie Schoenfeld, 89, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023.

Nina was born April 26, 1933, in Topeka, the daughter of Eugene and Meda Degarmo Stebbins. She was a graduate of Topeka High School. On May 12, 1952, Nina and Fred R. Schoenfeld were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church, enjoying 64 years together prior to his death July 8, 2016.

Nina’s first job was at Bobo’s Drive-In. She was employed for 23 years at Hayden High School as their baker and was famous for her cinnamon rolls. She retired from Washburn Rural Schools five years later.

Nina was always up for a game of bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs throughout her life. But she really just enjoyed any card game. She and Fred were involved in the Kansas Hunter Safety program as instructors and in the front office for the clinics. She was a master at crocheting and won a championship ribbon at the county fair for her work. She also enjoyed fishing, sewing, bingo and bowling. But more than anything, Nina loved her family and spending time with them.

Survivors include her children, Karen Schiffelbein (John), Topeka, Kenda Miller (Duane), Topeka, Richard Schoenfeld (Mary), Wamego, and Georgina Engler (Bruce), Burlingame; eleven grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Kay Stratton (Jack), Auburn KS. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Stebbins Jr. her sisters, Virginia Blossom, Nancy Baird and her twin sister, Lila Lee Shinn.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 23, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where the rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the House at Midland Care or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home.
