Kansas registered offender accused of perjury

RILEY COUNTY—A registered Kansas offender is in custody on numerous new allegations after an arrest.

Just after 2:30p.m. Thursday police arrested 29-year-old Elijah James Smith of Manhattan, on requested charges that include four counts of violating the offender registration act, two counts of perjury and one count of aggravated violation of the offender registration act, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

Smith has been listed as a registered violent offender since a felony aggravated assault conviction in Shawnee County in 2018, according to the KBI offender registry.

Smith remains jailed on a bond of $40,000.
