The 37th annual Junction City - Geary County Commemoration and Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held Monday, Jan. 17th at 10 a.m. the C.L. Hoover Opera House.

The theme will be "Write ( Right ) the Vision!" and will highlight King as a writer and author, and how his writings influence what is experienced today. Organizers noted that King's vision was clear but today due to injustices and actions contrary to his dream, have become less of a reality. The question exists, How do we as a people 'right' the vision?

Chaplain LTC James D. Key, 1st Infantry Division Chaplain, Author / Writer, will be the keynote speaker. He will be accompanied by the 1st Infantry Division Jazz Combo, the JC JOTC, Michael T. Brown & Friends and other guests. The program will also feature African American authors from the community who will highlight their works. The Coretta Scott King Courage ( Humanitarian ) Award will also be presented.

The community is invited. The event is free of charge. Face mask wear is mandatory to align with health and safety protocols.
