WHAT IS THE MAGDALENE PROJECT IN JC?
Twenty-one months in existence, The Magdalene Project has helped over 1,200 people in the area, yet is a quiet non-profit, unheard of by most. Created to address the evident needs in the community, the stars of their success stories are families underemployed by trying, homeless individuals, women and families coming out of domestic violence situations, Veterans, teens struggling with mental health or bullying, and addicts needing rehab.
Their work has brought Junction City a wealth of services, some of which are free quarterly Vet Clinics with K-State Vet Med, an annual free health fair, January's 10-day warming shelter, weekly free community dinners, funerals for homeless or those estranged from family, summer events for kids, Christmas blessings, street outreach focusing on the homeless, trafficked, or struggling families, and greater collaboration between social service agencies in the region.
The Magdalene Project will host an informational meeting this Wednesday from 6-7pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Junction City. Those interested in learning more about its founding, work, and future plans or how to volunteer should attend. You can learn more about their work by visiting Facebook at "The Magdalene Project" and can message them there with questions.
