The Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) in Manhattan reached a major milestone on Wednesday, June 10, welcoming its one millionth guest and marking a significant moment in the organization’s history.
Since opening in April 2012, the Flint Hills Discovery Center has served as a destination for residents and visitors alike seeking to learn more about the natural, historic, and cultural significance of the Flint Hills. Through its exhibits, programs, and special events, the Discovery Center has grown over the past fourteen years into a premiere attraction and educational destination.
“Getting to one million guests took a lot of hard work, energy, and dedication from everyone involved,” said Stephen Bridenstine, Flint Hills Discovery Center Director. “This milestone is a testament to the vision behind the Flint Hills Discovery Center and the many people who have supported it over the years.
The one millionth guest was recognized at the Discovery Center during a special reception commemorating the occasion. The Cash family from Dwight, Kan. was surprised with a "One Millionth Guest" certificate and complimentary annual family membership. Frequent visitors to the FHDC, the Cash family enjoys the Carl and Mary Ice Prairie Playscape, traveling exhibits, and the 4D immersive film, Tallgrass Prairie: Tides of Time.“
