Junction City finished fifth in girls and eighth in boys varsity team competition at the Manhattan Invitational on Friday. The girls scored 60.5 points while the boys finished with 55. Manhattan won the girls team title with 101.5 and the boys team title with 124.5.
Individual highlights for Junction City on the girls side included a second place finish by Jayda Harris in the triple jump with a 33'9.'' Nhubia Coney was third in the 100 meters in 13.14 and third in the 400 meters in 1:02.11, and Lorna Rae Pierce captured third place in the 3200 meters in 12:02.39.
For the Blue Jay boys, Tyler Atkins won the 3200 meters in 9:32.08, while Terrence Tedder was third in the 300 meter hurdles in 42.76. Rudy Vargas finished second in the shotput with a throw of 47'2.50" and Keghan McConnell was third in that event in 45'7." McConnel finished second in the discus with a throw of 134'2" while Vargas was third at 125'4." Ethan Agudzi-Addo captured third in the high jump with a jump of 6'.oo.
