Junction City Commissioners have adopted a resolution authorizing the City to submit an application to the National Fitness Campaign for participation in their 2024 initiative to install and activate Fitness Courts in 200 cities and schools across the country. This would involve trying to obtain a grant through Blue Cross Blue Shield.
According to staff information provided to the commission if the grant is approved the City would receive $50,000 and there would be a local match of up to $135,000. Quality Play for All would provide some funding with the balance paid by the City. APRA funds received by the City could be used for the project which would be a use benefitting the entire community.
This could be an improvement project for the 5th Street or Playground Park. The new project would be located south of the basketball court in the park.
