Geary County Clerk Courtney Gilbert confirmed that the Senior Center has been reserved for January 18th for the convention to recommend the next Sheriff.
The convention hosted by the Geary County Republican Central Committee chaired by Kathy Tremont begins at 7:00pm.
The procedure at the convention includes election by the committee of a sheriff to finish the remainder of the term currently being served by Dan Jackson, who is retiring on Jan.19. The name of the recommended candidate goes to the Governor, who has seven days to approve the appointment. If the governor does not take action the candidate chosen by the committee automatically becomes sheriff.
