The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is reminding anglers that Kansas Free Fishing Days will take place this weekend, June 6-7.
During Free Fishing Days, anyone can fish by legal means without a Kansas fishing license. Length and creel limits will still apply, and all other fishing regulations remain in effect.
The annual event is designed to encourage both new and experienced anglers to get outside and enjoy Kansas waters. Whether introducing a child to fishing for the first time, spending time with family at the lake, or simply enjoying a weekend outdoors, Free Fishing Days offer an opportunity to experience fishing across the state at no cost.
“Kansas Free Fishing Days are a great chance for families and friends to spend time together outdoors,” said KDWP Secretary Christopher Kennedy. “Fishing is one of the easiest ways to connect with nature, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of the weekend and explore the incredible fishing opportunities Kansas has to offer.”
Kansas offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities, from large reservoirs and state fishing lakes to community ponds and rivers. Anglers can target species such as channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, walleye, and more.
Anglers are encouraged to plan ahead before heading out on the water by reviewing fishing regulations and practicing safe boating and water safety habits.
