The fifth annual Freedom Fest JC celebration began on Wednesday evening. The festival began with several local kids taking the big stage and singing several patriotic songs. It was then immediately followed by the Freedom Sings performance. The Freedom Sings songs featured three local veterans and one Gold Star family member partnering with Nashville, Tennessee, songwriters and creating a song about their experiences.
The beer garden, carnivals, and all food vendors opened Wednesday night as well to kick off the five-day celebration. Freedom Fest continues Thursday night, with vendors and acts opening at 5:30 p.m.
Nate Butler, one of the co-directors of Freedom Fest, has a simple message for the community: “Just come on out and have fun with us,” Butler said. “Come out and enjoy this time. We always have great crowds out here. We’ve got great bands, great side shows, and you’ll be impressed.”
