
Junction City Police Department Release
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, at approximately 8:28 p.m., officers with the Junction City Police Department were dispatched to Walmart, located at 521 E. Chestnut Street, in reference to a reported vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, officers located a single vehicle that had struck large electrical components associated with the business. One individual was found deceased inside the vehicle. Officers immediately secured the scene and requested the assistance of detectives.
Detectives are currently conducting a death investigation related to the incident. At this time, no foul play is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The identity of the deceased individual is not being released at this time due to the active and ongoing nature of the investigation.
As a result of the crash, the damage to the electrical infrastructure caused a loss of power to the business, resulting in Walmart temporarily closing.
There is no threat to the community related to this incident.

The Walmart on East Chestnut Street in Junction City is currently closed and will be closed for the next couple of days.
According to the Tour Report from the Junction City Police Department, there was an injury car accident at 521 E. Chestnut Street at 8:28 p.m. on Sunday evening, April 12. There is no power at Walmart following the crash.
