David Starks, Senior District Executive for the Konza District of Boy Scouts of America, was the guest speaker at the November 9th JC Breakfast Club meeting.  He told the Optimists that “130 boys and girls are involved in scouting in Junction City. The ages range from kindergarten through 21 years of age.

Leadership development, career exploration, character building, camping skills, first aid and physical fitness are only some of the topics covered when scouts are involved over multiple years. The ultimate achievement is for a scout to be an Eagle Scout. Less than 4% reach this goal.”

There are 87 scout units in 32 counties in 5 districts across North Central and Northwest Kansas.

David also shared that “recently there has been a 5% growth in female scouts and a 6% overall growth in the total membership in scouting.”
